Alembic Pharmaceuticals Limited (APL) is an Indian multinational pharmaceutical company headquartered in Vadodara, Gujarat and is involved in manufacturing of pharmaceutical products, substances and intermediates. Established in 1907, Alembic today is one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in India. With an employee strength of 9,000+ in India, their travel was bifurcated between multiple TMCs in Mumbai & Vadodara.


When Corporate Traveller started working with them for their Mumbai Office, they were already working on a booking tool, but were looking for an updated tool which could give them a seamless experience in Travel bookings. They also wanted to have one central repository of the data on basis of which analysis could be done to give them a better visibility in terms of end to end travel spends. Some of the key challenges Alembic faced were:

  • Non-compliant bookings
  • Duty of care
  • No visibility on travel spends


In 2018, Alembic & Corporate Traveller decided to design a Self-Booking tool for their Mumbai Office travel program and bring about a change in the mode of booking for all levels including the Field Staff. Corporate Traveller offered a self-booking tool that could improve their booking efficiencies and developed it after multiple discussions with stakeholders of both the parties.

The main approach was to have an approval mechanism that suited their travel to be booked seamlessly without affecting the user experience and in line with their travel policy. Soon the adoption rate reached 100% with a wonderful partnership of effective push from Alembic and efficient services by Corporate Traveller. The monthly dashboard from Corporate Traveller showcased an analysis of overall travel spends, buying behaviour in terms of Missed savings, booking patterns while also benchmarking airline spends.

In 2019, Alembic also decided to open the booking access for their field staff through Corporate Traveller so that their entire Mumbai region travel could be routed through one single platform. They mandated the usage of preferred hotels on the online booking tool. The objective was to improve the hotel program compliance and encourage travellers to book through a TMC.


Within 2 years, Alembic achieved major travel program success especially in terms of compliance, 100% online booking tool adoption and getting consolidated reporting and visibility on leakages. They were able to achieve 7% savings on ATPs and an additional 5% savings due to GST Reconciliation.
